Can I take a Structured Study class even though I am a General Intensive or Business English student?

OF COURSE!  You can do as much Structured Study as you want!  This will help to improve your English much quicker!  Be careful - You cannot do Structured Study to keep your attendance high if you miss your general or elective classes!  You don’t get any attendance for extra Structured Study classes that you do.

 

If I have a housing problem, who can I speak with?

If you are living in a residence you should talk to Matt Kelly in the housing office.

If you live with a host family you should talk to Johanna Baker in the housing office. 

The office hours for the housing office are 9 – 12 / 2 – 5 Tuesday to Friday.  No office hours on Monday.

Can I go to Canada for the weekend or more?

          Yes, you can go to Canada.  Please come to the front desk early with your bus/plane/car tickets or receipts and your I-20 (if you are an F-1 student).  For students on an F-1 visa, you must have at least two weeks of school left.  Do you need a visa to enter Canada?  Check this website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/visit/visas.asp  Have a great trip!

How can I get to other cities? What is the best way to get to other cities?

To get to Boston, Washington DC, or Philadelphia the cheapest and easiest way is by bus.  You can take Megabus or the Chinatown bus for about $30- $40 roundtrip.  Go to www.megabus.com or www.chinatown-bus.com. You can also take a guided tour to many cities with Kaplan Aspect!  Ask Robert, the Student Life Manager, or your Student Representatives for more information!

If I lost my passport, what should I do?

Come to the front desk to get a copy of your passport.  You will have to contact your embassy or consulate to see what you must do to replace your passport.  In most cases, you have to fill out an application and pay the processing fees to get your new passport.  It is usually pretty quick.  Let us know if you need help!

Where can I find supermarkets?

There are many supermarkets in every borough.  The best way to find a supermarket near your residence is to ask your neighbors or go to www.superpages.com, where you can get a list of supermarkets in your area.  There are also many supermarkets in Manhattan.  Union Square has a nice farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays!  For fresh and cheap vegetables, take the subway to Astoria, Queens at Broadway/30th Ave/Ditmars stations.  There are many nice outside markets at these stations.
